It is not a bad idea to pair nuts with prunes or dates.. In fact it is very delicious .. Whereas the prunes and dates provide natural sweetness to the snack, the nuts provide crunchiness and negate part of the sweetness.
However, I am unsure which countries’ snack is it. Since dates are plentiful abundance in middle eastern countries, it was always a souvenir from the Middle East. However, China also has their own version using red dates and the first time I savour this combo is from a Facebook Friend who has given me some that she purchased in Taiwan.
This is such a simple recipe that I do not even know how to write. It is fast and easy yet elegantly presented and delicious. It is more of a concept introduction rather than a recipe.
Dates are good ingredients and red dates aka jujube is another good alternative. As for the nuts, macadamia is one of the best nuts that lifted the status of the snack but other nuts can also be used such as toasted walnuts and almonds or even pecan.
If you are asking where to get the dates and prunes, Malay called this korma and now it is easily available in most markets. These preserved fruits are very common during the Muslim fasting months or Ramadan. in fact, during these 2 months, there are many grades and qualities of dates being sold at different prices. Some can be rather costly if it is of good quality. Dates are energy packed snacks due to its high glucose content and hence appropriate in the month of Ramadan.
